Solar energyWhether you’ve just started a new project or you’ve got deadlines coming up, it’s not easy to stay up to date with the latest industry news.

So we’ve put together a list of 5 interesting articles to help you catch up on some intriguing discussions happening right now in manufacturing, including Nissan's development of a solar farm to UPS' on-demand 3D printing network.

1) Overcoming the UK’s productivity deficit

According to an article by online publication The Engineer, Britain’s productivity seems to be below what we’re capable of achieving. The article goes on to mention that German workers are more productive compared to British workers, taking only 4 days to deliver on something that would take 5 days for a British worker to produce.

Yet, from an interview with Brian Holliday, MD of Siemens UK & Ireland, the article discusses a few ways the UK can tackle its productivity deficit. You can access the full article here

2) The UK’s development of a national space program

According to the Commons Science and Technology Committee, the UK need to do more to launch a national space programme that would put the UK on the map when it comes to spaceplane technology.

Despite the UK’s recognition as a leader in small satellites, there are concerns that there’s very little awareness of the UK’s space and satellite sector, something which the Government need to address.

3) Nissan develop solar farm for greener production

Automotive manufacturer Nissan have recently developed a solar farm of 19,000 photovoltaic panels as part of efforts to increase their use of renewable energy.

According to Nissan, the power generated from their renewable energy capacity is enough to build the equivalent of 31,374 vehicles.

5) UPS to launch on-demand 3D printing network

UPS will later this year launch it’s new on-demand manufacturing network, enabling manufacturing companies to gain access to 3D printing facilities on-demand.

With 3D printing growing at such a rapid pace, this new manufacturing network will enable manufacturing companies to improve their time to market and cost-efficiency, ultimately helping organisations to become more competitive.
