Are Alternative Facts acceptable to an Engineer?

We are currently in a place called “post-truth era” where “alternative facts” are being positioned as acceptable currency. I was wondering how this impacts an engineer who must work with the laws of nature and harness them for the good of mankind.

A key lesson we all learn during our engineering education and working experiences is that the mechanical psychical world obeys Newtons Three Laws of Motion.

These laws have the laid the foundation for classical mechanics upon which engineers have built the knowledge and hence technology that has delivered cars, aeroplanes and got mankind to the moon.

All these large-scale achievements can only be made through sharing and collaborating information, or facts, such that specialised individuals within an enterprise can make their contribution.

 This leads to the only acceptable answer for engineering a “single source of truth”, wherein engineering designs, or facts, are secured and shared in a single database, shared and through collaboration enhanced.

This is what we do at Desktop Engineering. We enable our clients to create their databases through creating a PDM (Product Data Management) vault. This repository then delivers the information from one source with no alternatives.

More recently, using Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE platform we can deliver this vault so that sharing is done in real-time, allowing collaboration across continents concurrently using either the On-Cloud or On-Premise solution. The data, or facts, is typically CATIA CAD data, FEA analysis data or facts, CAM and probably test data. Everything that is needed for design, manufacturing or construction – delivered all as the next generation of PLM Catia On-Cloud.
