3DEXPERIENCE Launcher license renewal
Potential 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher License Renewal Required
A little-known fact is that the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher service on your client uses a license. This license comes packaged into the Launcher install and is given an expiry date way out into the future so that – hopefully – it will never become an issue.

Taper Barrell Milling in CATIA and DELMIA
What is it?
Taper Barrel milling is ever growing in popularity. Traditionally, complex geometry with a double curvature such IML features on aerostructure surfaces would have been generated or scanned using ballnose cutters. This would significantly increase the overall cycle time due to the small step overs or step downs used to achieve the required surface finish or scallop height. Another application where these tools can be used is in very deep pockets where traditional endmills or long edge cutters struggle due to the instability invoked when using high length to diameter ratio tool assemblies.
A typical representation is shown above . The barrel radius is so large it is almost invisible to the eye.

Maximising Efficiency with CATIA Manufacturing
CATIA Manufacturing (V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE) offers a complete CAD/CAM solution for a multitude of industrial applications in a fully homogenous environment.
The programming tools CATIA offer are highly powerful and industry leading on both the manufacturing and design side. However, unless this powerful functionality is being sufficiently leveraged, the investment is not being capitalized on.
Let’s have a look at just 3 CATIA functions, that if implemented correctly, will very quickly bring about some noteworthy benefits and address key areas that have become buzz words within manufacturing –

Scripting with MSC Apex
In an ideal world every piece of software has a button that does exactly what you want, but in the real world you will find yourself completing repetitive tasks either within a single model or each time to create a model.
Repetitive tasks waste the time of engineers and can lead to errors through lack of attention. MSC Apex has adopted the Python scripting language with its own extensions in order to make automation of tasks a fairly straightforward thing.

Non-uniform Thickness with MSC Apex
Capturing data
If you work with moulded or die cast parts you’ll be familiar with thin shell parts that have tapering thickness due to draft angles. Capturing this effect in your finite element mesh can be tricky and lead to approximations that might not be comfortable or conservative. MSC Apex has an auto-assignment feature that will accurately capture and represent the non-uniform shell thickness with remarkably little effort.

Geometry Manipulation with Apex
Ease of Use
The guiding principle for the development of MSC Apex has been ease of use. Through the intelligent design of an intuitive interface users need no formal training and can be productive after watching a few short videos. All the features of the product have both written and video instructions making it easy to learn as well as use.
